Congratulations to Omar Hernandez a recent graduate from CSUB's History program has been accepted to the Global History MA joint program between Humboldt University zu Berlin and Freie University Berlin for the upcoming fall semester.
UPDATE 2/3/16: Dr. Cliona Murphy (History) received an email from Omar Hernandez telling her about his study abroad experience.
I am towards the end of my first semester and I can honestly say that I really love the program with the various topics one can concentrate on and how the seminars/lectures are coordinated by the professors at Freie and Humboldt University. I am learning about new topics in a global perspective. I have entrenched myself into this program and I am glad and fortunate that I was able to be a part of it. It is quite a different experience than my studies in Sweden and I really like how German courses are conducted here.
All is well now and I am accustomed to the city, studies and everyday life here but it was a difficult journey from the beginning! I had a difficult time obtaining my residence permit, a student bank account, registering for the city, and finding housing (It is a nightmare trying to find anything in Berlin!). After all of the necessary tasks I had to do, I was able to have a weekly routine and a less hectic life as of now. The city is really beautiful and has a lot to offer. I like the change of scenery into a big city.
As of now, my regional focus will be in Europe but I am strongly considering Latin America as well and my sub-concentration in Nationalism. This is not a concrete decision but I am strongly leaning toward these studies. In addition, my German is drastically improving and I am quite curious to see how far my German develops towards the end of my studies.
