Dr. Tim Vivian from the Religious Studies department recently published “Each Breath Both Prayer and Practice: The Sayings of Antony the Great in the Alphabetical Apophthegmata Patrum, A New Translation and Commentary" in the Cistercian Studies Quarterly 53.3 (2018): 235-266.

Philosophy professor, Dr. Michael Burroughs shared his recent publication news with us. He has wrote several articles these past few months and you can read them at the links below.
His article "Toward Engaging a Broader Public: Children and Public Philosophy"is co-authored with Dr. Desiree Valentine (Marquette University) in the Public Philosophy Journal. Please feel free to read his article as it is available as open access and downloadable as a PDF.
Another article "How to Survive a Crisis: Reclaiming Philosophy as a Public Practice" is available in the Palgrave Communications and Dr. Burroughs feels it might interest those who want to learn more about public philosophy and also, the threats to philosophy and the humanities in higher education.
He also wrote a op-ed with Dr. Brittney Beck on the SEEDE Institute which can be found on the Bakersfield Californian online news site.
Check out the solo exhibit, titled Polvo eres Polvo Seras (You are Dirt and Dirt You Shall Become) by Art major, Juan Ochoa.
The exhibit is free to visit and is located in the CSUB White Room Gallery (room on stilts). It is open until 5:00 p.m. today and opens Thursday, September 20th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
History professor, Dr. Mustafah Dhada shared with us his radio interview discussing the elections in Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau.

Congratulations to Mendy McMasters (CSUB Theatre instructor) who directed the Tony award winning play Dancing at Lughnasa at the Empty Space, a performing arts theater in Bakersfield. The cast and crew included CSUB faculty member, Kamala Boeck, former and current students, as well as actors from the Bakersfield community.

During the month of August, Dr. Jackie Kegley traveled to Beijing, China to present two papers at the 24th World Congress of Philosophy.
Congratulations Dr. Kegley for presenting your papers at an international forum! The titles of the papers were "What Does it Mean to Be Human in an Intercultural Context?" and "Expanding our Humanity by Building Inclusive Communities."
