CSUB Todd Madigan Gallery presents
February 11- March 18, 2017
opening reception Saturday, February 11, 4-6 pm
Todd Madigan Gallery at CSU Bakersfield is pleased to present the most recent in a series of site-adaptive works that capture, reroute and represent light as material resource. These works draw inspiration from the pragmatism of ad hoc domestic interventions, as well as the ambition and conceptual rigor of major resource infrastructure.
Jenkins approaches the gallery not as an empty space, waiting to be filled with art, but instead as a territory already filled with light and space resources. Using commonly found materials such as plastic, mylar and lumber, the light entering the gallery will be captured and redirected through a series of conduit and dam-like structures. As a result, the gallery will become shrouded in darkness, and light will be focused and given sculptural form.
