Dr. Robert Frakes (Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities) recently published an article in Antiquité Tardive: Revue Internationale d'Histoire et d'Archéologie (IVe-VIIIe), an international scholarly journal focusing on the world of late antiquity.
This special issue of the journal was edited by Dr. Sylvain Janniard of the University of Tours and focused on the governance of cities in late antiquity from the 4th to the 7th centuries AD/CE. It includes articles by scholars from Brazil, Canada, France, Italy, Scotland, Spain, and the United States. Frakes’ article examines the evolution of the judicial office of the defensor civitatis (or defender of the city) as well as the reception of the office in the 4th and 5th centuries AD/CE.
