8ft x 5ft Assorted Wood
Studio Art majors, Valerie Pena, Dale Wolfe, and Gelacia Torivio, created a public sculpture in Advanced 3-Dimensional Topics class, to be placed outside of the new Arts and Humanities building.
They took on this challenge to demonstrate learning about site-specific artwork in Professor Joyce Kohl’s ART 4300 course. They felt that a site-specific sculpture would bring a focal point to the
brand-new building, while also keeping a close tie with the neighboring Visual Arts building.
The art piece consists of various types of wood, which give the sculpture its unique appearance. The students re-purposed each piece of wood, stained it, and created countless patterns so the public sculpture had an abstract form. This technique allows the artwork to blend in with its natural surroundings because it is placed near wood-chips and trees located outside the Arts and Humanities structure.
